UC Faculty Pump Up Students For TN Ready Testing

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director
Union City, Tenn.–Students in the Union City School System began the week preparing for end-of-the year TN Ready testing.
Teachers at both UC Middle School and UC Elementary – seeking to promote the best mindset of students and preparation before those tests began —  oversaw a series of pep rallies, skits and fun competitions that rewarded some winners with cash prizes.
At UCMS, students participated in a variation of the television game show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”
Students in each grade answered a series of questions that carried both point and dollar values with a panel of teacher judges that included David Houston, Robyn Doyle, Christa Van Hooser and Lisa Williams.
Ultimate winners from every grade, each of whom received certificates and $25, included: Kady Oliver and Ella Palmer (7th grade), Katana Bonds (6th grade), Jake Underwood (5th grade) and Neiel Kisrael (8th grade).
At UC Elementary School, students enthusiastically responded to several popular children’s songs, performed Wednesday in costumed attire by members of the faculty and staff – all the while encouraging students to perform the best in the upcoming tests.
There were a number superheroes in attendance as well.
Teachers gave tips to students in their preparation for the exams, including getting a good night’s rest, eating a hearty breakfast and paying attention to instructions while managing their time during the tests.
Director of Schools Wes Kennedy was in attendance and beamed with pride afterward.
“Thank you for being the best elementary faculty and staff in the world,” Kennedy told the UCES faculty in an email. “Students at UCES are blessed to have you in their lives.”
TN Ready tests are given to students in grades 2-11.
