MAYFIELD, KY – The Bethel Wildcat Men’s Basketball program signed Mayfield High School star Connor Guthrie Thursday. He is the son of Kent and Amanda Guthrie of Mayfield and will major in Education.
Guthrie ranks 11th in Kentucky High School basketball history with 310 made three-pointers. He scored 1, 729 career points for the Cardinals and grabbed 577 rebounds. He also had 200 steals and 217 career assists. His senior season he led the Cardinals to the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen in famed Rupp Arena averaging 15.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He scored 519 points, hit 96 three’s and collected 134 rebounds during his senior campaign.
He joins former Wildcat standouts Cole Nelson and Caleb Hardy as Region I Players of the Year to sign and play their collegiate ball at Bethel. He helped lead the Cardinals to three Region I Championships and was all-district three years in a row.
His most memorable moments include the regional titles and joining the MHS 1,000 Point Club.
Connor feels his biggest strengths are his shooting and passing.
Off the court Connor excelled in the classroom with a 3.57 GPA and was a member of the Beta Club at MHS.
Coach Jeff Britt expressed his excitement about the signing. “We are really pleased to have Connor join our program for the next four seasons. We are excited for the opportunity to work with him and see him develop as a student-athlete. He is a person with great character and integrity along with being an outstanding player.”
