Springville, Tenn.–The Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge is welcoming a brand new program in the Refuge Discovery Series featuring “Mysterious Marvelous Mushrooms” by local expert Jonathan Lodge of Paris.
Beginning at 1 pm Saturday, April 13, at the Refuge Visitor Center located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville, participants will hear about the unique qualities that make up this special group of fungi called mushrooms. Explanations of the life cycle of a mushroom, sometimes dangerous properties and local identification of some mushrooms. After the program, any participant is invited to join us for a brief walk in which we will look to identify local specimens. For this part of the afternoon, we encourage good walking shoes and a light jacket depending on weather. In case of rain, bring a rain jacket.
This is a great program with good information you can use to search your property. Remember, it is illegal to take any plant from TN National Wildlife refuge property and that includes mushrooms.
