Paris, Tenn. – The latest change to come to downtown Paris are dumpsters that beautify the environment.
The Downtown Paris Association and the City of Paris have partnered with the Tennessee Arts Commission for a grant that beautifies the street scape in the form of “Dumpster Art”.
The City of Paris has prepared the green dumpsters for the artwork and local artists are working to make them pieces of art for the streets. Downtown Paris Association Executive Director Kathy Ray said Millard Nichols and John Monroe are two artists who have joined the project.
“We are pleased to announce that there will be three dumpsters in the downtown area that are representative of our community events and historical landmarks,” Ray said. “Bringing the big green dumpsters back to the streets of downtown was a necessity for restaurants in the downtown area so we decided to make them works of art. The first two will become part of our street scape on Tuesday, April 9th. The third dumpster will be located downtown within the next month.”
“Our downtown alleys are filled with great artwork,” Paris City Manager Kim Foster said. “The dumpster art is a beautiful addition to our downtown street scape. We received the Art Builds Communities (ABC) grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission for this project and we are very pleased with the artwork.”
