No Injuries Reported When Semi Overturns

Mayfield, Ky.–No injuries were reported following collisions on Interstate 69 in Graves County after a semi overturned and spilled diesel fuel on the roadway.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office responded to an overturned semi on the Interstate at 9:30 p.m. Saturday evening. Michael Burton of Columbia , Ky., was traveling southbound and kust north of Exit 21, he lost control of the semi he was driving.
According to the press release from the Graves Co. Sheriff’s Office, the 52,000 pounds of iron he was carrying caused the semi to overturn, completely crossing all southbound lanes of Interstate 69. A large amount of diesel fuel leaked from the overturned semi on to the roadway.

Mayfield/Graves County Fire and Rescue was able to stop the leak from spreading off the roadway. Deputies, along with the Mayfield Police Department and the Kentucky State Police, arrived on scene within minutes. Backed up vehicles who were at a standstill on the Interstate were allowed to turn around and negotiate safely back to a different route with assistance from the above agencies.

Keaton Waggoner of Mayfield was the only other vehicle involved in the collision. To avoid the overturned semi, he was forced to slam on his brakes which caused the trailer he was carrying to jackknife and his truck struck the guardrail. No injuries were reported in these collisions. Interstate 69 was closed for approximately four and a half hours while the scene was cleared.

The Mayfield Fire Department, Graves County Emergency Management and Mayfield/Graves County EMS also assisted at the scene.
