DOVER, TN – On Saturday, April 6, 2019, history buffs, community leaders, and preservationists will aid in the maintenance and restoration of numerous sites as part of Park Day, the American Battlefield Trust’s annual hands-on preservation event. Thousands of volunteers across the country will participate as Park Day celebrates its 23rd year with events in 32 states.
In Dover, Tennessee, Fort Donelson National Battlefield will host a Park Day event beginning at 9:00 AM. Park Day projects will include trash and debris pick up that was left across the lower battlefield landscape by receding spring flooding. Cleanup will be below the Lower River Artillery Battery, location of the “big guns,” (Tour Stop #4). There, a Park Ranger of Fort Donelson will also be available to describe the site’s significance during the campaign of February 1862.
