Union City, Tenn.–They were literally standing in line Thursday to enroll their children in the Union City School System.
Early registration for both pre-K and kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year was held at UCES and drew a steady stream of parents – several of whom were in line before sign-ups began at 9 a.m.
Numbers at the end of the day, which included a heavier crowd at lunch and just before registration ended at 6 p.m., were still being calculated.
Once greeted by faculty and administration and inside the school library, several stations were set up for both parents and their children.
While children underwent some preliminary testing from teachers, parents filled out paperwork necessary for the registration. Children then had their palm-prints – in purple and gold colors – placed on a bulletin board headlined with the inscription “Class of 2032.”
Families had photo opportunities while their students signed a “letter of intent” to attend UC Schools and also had a celebratory set-up. The children then enjoyed a snack.
“Registration today was a huge success,” UCES Principal David Byars said. “We are glad to have had such a tremendous turnout with these sign-ups.
“Beginning the educational journey with these newest golden Tornadoes was fun for everyone, and we are excited about our future with these students.”
Students will still be allowed to register for the two classes until they begin in August.
