Photo Showcase Returns To Library; Judith Putnam Wins Best Of Show

 
Paris, Tenn.–Judith Putnam won Best of Show–and also 1st Place in the Travel Category–at the Paris-Henry County Arts Council’s 27th annual Photo Showcase. Winners were announced at a reception Sunday afternoon and the Photo Showcase will be on display from now through April 12 at the W.G. Rhea Public Library in downtown Paris.
Arts Council spokeswoman Meredith Vajda said there were 100 entries in the contest year, much more than in recent years. A possible reason, she said, is because the Photo Showcase was returned to the library this year.
Sponsors for the event are Dr. Danny and Martha Kimberlin.
Vajda noted the judges had quite a discussion about the photo which eventually won Best in Show.  They agreed that black and white is difficult to shoot well because the photographer doesn’t have the “noise” associated with color. She said, “It’s spare. Balance is not easy. But this good example of ‘street photography’ could be a magazine cover.”
