Paris Man Held On Long List Of Charges After Wild Chase

Paris, Tenn.—A Paris man is being held on $50,000 bond at the Henry County Jail after a wild chase in which he allegedly damaged other vehicles—including a deputy’s cruiser–while fleeing law enforcement from different jurisdictions Saturday afternoon.
James A. Conger, age 20, of 1110 Grove Street, is charged with a long list of violations by two different agencies—Paris Police and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Paris Police charged Conger with reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, aggravated assault, evading arrest, resisting a stop, violation of the halt and frisk law, leaving the scene of an accident, and speeding.
The sheriff’s office charged him with reckless endangerment, evading arrest, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
Conger was finally arrested around 1 p.m. on Hwy. 79 North.
The incident began during a traffic stop from which Conger allegedly took off with a city officer’s handcuffs on his wrist. Conger then allegedly drove the wrong way down Veterans Drive and hit another vehicle.
Law enforcement ended the pursuit, but still followed Conger at a distance as he drove down Hwy. 79 North. Sheriff’s deputies set up spike strips on the highway. Meanwhile, Conger was seen pulling into a business parking lot where Sgt. Wayne Fuqua ordered him out of his car at gunpoint.
Conger then rammed Fuqua’s patrol car, then took off again onto the highway. Deputies boxed in his vehicle and while attempting to arrest him, Conger began fighting and was tasered by law enforcement.
Conger was then taken to Henry Co. Medical Center where he was treated, following which he was taken to jail.
