Ridgely, Tenn.—The only grocery store in Ridgely was destroyed by fire Monday night, with the roof and front of the building collapsing from the fire.
Ridgely Fire Chief Charles Stewart said the building was already fully engulfed when the local firefighters arrived around 8 p.m., with multiple agencies responding to the huge fire as the evening wore on.
Stewart thanked the fire departments from Tiptonville, Dyersburg, Newbern, Bogota, Millsfield and Hornbeak for all the assistance provided.
The grocery store, which is owned by Ricky Patel, is located at 115 N. Main St. in the heart of downtown Ridgely.
A spokeswoman at Ridgely City Hall said the nearest grocery store for people of the town is in Tiptonville.
Stewart said the investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
Ridgely is a town of about 2,000 population in Lake County.
