Union City, Tenn.–Union City Schools made National Beta Week a community celebration Tuesday night.
The UCHS library and commons area was transformed into Seussville, with the Cat in the Hat making an appearance as the high school and middle school Beta Clubs along with the Key Club combined to host a Family Reading Night for young students and their parents.
Around 50 students and their parents enjoyed making crafts, reading books and making and eating a snack together.
Wade Clendenin, a senior and Beta Club Vice President, dressed in full Cat in the Hat costume and read a book to open the event.
Additionally, students were allowed to take AR (Accelerated Reading) tests – something that is normally allowed only during school hours.
UCHS Beta Club members received shirts earlier in the week to wear both to school and during the event designed by sophomore member Leah Wisener.
