Dover, Tenn.–The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office has received several calls from residents as well as people outside the county and state about a possible scam.
People are receiving calls advising that a relative is in jail here in Stewart County and money is being requested to post bail. The scammers are even making the phone number on the phone to replicate the Jail number 232-3114.
Sheriff Frankie Gray wants all residents and people outside the county to know that if they receive such a call this is a scam and to please hang up. The Sheriff’s Office will never call anyone requesting for money.
Please advise family members especially senior citizens about this. Never give callers any information over the phone especially credit card numbers, bank card numbers, or any personal information. If anyone is unsure about any phone call or receive a request over the phone and/or a computer please call the Dispatch non-emergency number 232-5322 so a complaint card can be generated.
