Cold Doesn't Bother UCMS Soccer Team

Union City, Tenn.–A little cold never hurt anybody.
 
It certainly hasn’t bothered the Union City Middle School soccer team.
 
The Tornadoes won for the second time in as many nights in frigid conditions, knocking off Henry County 5-1 Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium.
 
After beating Trenton 4-1 in sub-freezing temperatures on Monday, UC jumped to a three-goal halftime lead and then cruised with the thermometer in the mid-30s Tuesday.
 
Hector Corona scored three goals and Miguel Sanchez-Cruz and Isaac Mack each found the net for the winners. Sanchez-Cruz also added a pair of assists.
 
Amari Bonds recorded a half-dozen saves in goal for the Purple and Gold.
 
“They all played with great effort the entire match,” said Travis Van Hooser, a UCHS assistant coach who was filling in for UCMS head coach Rob Nettles, who missed his second match due to illness.
 
UC High School head coach John Graham was in charge of the team during Monday’s win.
 
Union City will be back in action Monday, hosting Martin.
 
UCHS baseball to scrimmage
Today at Halls
 
Union City High School baseball added a late scrimmage to the schedule Tuesday, a trip to Halls today at 4:30 now on the preseason docket.
 
The Tornadoes will still host Trinity Christian Academy Thursday at 4:30 at Elam Stadium.
 
UC will open its 2019 campaign Monday with a home game against Dresden.
