Union City Band Students Honor Fallen Navy Lt. "Tito" Lannom

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director
Union City, Tenn.–A handful of Union City High School band members did their part in paying respects to U.S. Navy Lt. Richard “Tito” Lannom this morning.
Those students, along with band directors Jason Deem and Ryan Wilkerson, lined the front of the UC Elementary and High School properties with several dozen American flags in honor of the Union City native, who died 51 years ago yesterday when his A-6 aircraft went down over the Quang Ninh Province of North Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
The efforts of the UCHS students were part of their regular community service work. The flags will adorn a route taken today following Lannom’s funeral service, to be held at the Dinosaur Hall at Discovery Park of America.
Visitation was scheduled from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m.
A procession from DPA is scheduled to travel south along Everett Boulevard from DPA to Reelfoot Avenue, turn left and travel east to Miles Avenue, and then north before arriving at East View Cemetery around 2:15.
Residents not attending the services are encouraged to line the funeral route to pay their respects to Lannom, who had been listed as Obion County’s lone service person missing in action from the Vietnam War.
Lannom’s remains were recovered in 2017 and identified in 2018.
