Union City, Tenn.–Union City Elementary School has been the place to be this week.
The Read Across America program has celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss all week with theme dress-up days and guest readers of his books from both the community and the UC School System.
Today was “fun hat” day, a take-off of the poplar Dr. Seuss book “Cat in the Hat,” with students, faculty and administration all participating by wearing their favorite fun hat.
Senior student athletes from UC High School read to UCES students to begin the school day.
Monday was dress up day under the banner of “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” theme, with all involved sporting either their favorite college shirt or in the entire get-up of what they want to be when grown.
Tuesday was red or blue shirt day, celebrating the Seuss story “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.”
On Wacky Wednesday, students and staff were encouraged to wear wacky, mismatched or backwards clothing.
“Fox in Socks” took centerstage Thursday, with all welcomed to wear crazy or fun socks.
Second graders – under the direction of music teacher Kathleen Parker – presented their annual music program to other UCES students and their families on Tuesday with a Dr. Seuss theme.
UCHS Beta Club
To celebrate Seuss, too
The Union City High School Beta Club will transform the school’s commons area and library into “Seussville” and host a Dr. Seuss-themed Family Reading Night Tuesday.
The event will run from 4:30 until 7 p.m.
The group will read Seuss books, create fun art and enjoy a snack. The Cat in the Hat will also be in attendance for fun photo opportunities, according to organizers of the event.
The AR window will be also be open during that time.
