MCKENZIE, TN – Bethel University’s College of Arts and Sciences has added a minor in Sports Management to its growing lineup of course offerings. The new minor focuses on foundational knowledge in sports management, marketing, communications, and event operations. The minor — one of 33 offered through Bethel’s College of Arts and Sciences — can be combined with any College of Arts and Sciences major to provide students with additional employment and learning opportunities.
The Sports Management curriculum combines athletic pedagogy with a wealth of experiential learning opportunities designed to deepen students’ understanding of relevant theories and concepts in the field. Scheduled special events currently include attendance at the 2019 NFL draft, the 2019 Rock-n-Roll Marathon in Nashville, and a special fundraising 5K run at the university. Future events include volunteering at major sporting events, allowing students an opportunity to gain valuable experience and increase networking opportunities.
“We’re excited to offer this new minor and believe it will be a popular choice with students majoring in everything from Fitness and Wellness Promotion to Business Administration,” said Vice President and Academic Dean Dr. Cindy Mallard. “Sports Management is a growing field with abundant career opportunities.”
The Sports Management minor is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for a wide variety of fields, including professional and global sport organizations; amateur sports programs; collegiate, interscholastic and intramural athletics; sports marketing; facility and event management; athletic and recreation departments; corporate wellness and fitness programs; ticket sales and stadium operations; marketing and promotions; merchandising management, and other emerging opportunities in the field of sports and recreation management.
Early registration begins March 11. For more information about Bethel’s new minor in Sports Management, contact Assistant Professor Josh Greer at (731) 352-4000 Ext. 6382 or email greerj@bethelu.edu.
