Union City, Tenn.—A historic milestone in the lengthy history of WENK in Union City has been achieved with the addition of an FM signal for the station.
The FM frequency can be found at 95.5 FM, while the WENK AM remains at 1240. Both broadcast the same programming, same music.
Jared Mims, Executive Vice President of Forever Communications, said this morning the addition of an FM signal “really enhances our brand. It’s a great move for the station.”
WENK-AM first went on the air with 250 watts day and night from the upstairs of a furniture store on October 26, 1946. WENK featured the talents of people like Hank Huggins and Lou Wrather in its early days.
WENK caught the rock and roll bug in 1956 and pretty much remained a popular music or Top 40 station. WENK increased its power to 1000 watts in the early 1960s.
Meanwhile, in Paris, WTPR went on the air with 250 watts daytime from the second floor of a building at the corner of Market and Wood Streets in Paris in 1947. Both WENK and WTPR were owned by the former Dixie Network of Jackson.
Now, both WENK and WTPR are owned and operated by Forever Communications.
