Mayfield, Ky.—Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon died Saturday morning at his home. According to the coroner’s office, his death was due to natural causes.
The sheriff’s office posted a message Saturday afternoon, sending their thoughts and prayers to Sheriff Redmon’s family.
The post goes on to note that Sheriff Redmon served his community faithfully for over 30 years, serving as a Deputy under Sheriff Burl Youngblood, then as a police officer with the Mayfield Police Department (reaching the rank of Assistant Chief) before moving back to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office as its Chief Deputy under Sheriff John Davis. Sheriff Redmon served in that capacity for twelve years before becoming Sheriff in 2011.
Sheriff Redmon was responsible for starting the department’s “Shop with a Deputy” Christmas shopping trip for community children. He was a true champion for the community, as he was extremely dedicated to Graves County and its people.
The message concludes, “Rest easy. We will take it from here, Sir.”
Redmon had been undergoing a difficult period, having been indicted on drug charges last year and limited to administrative duties.
