Buchanan, Tenn.—The resident of a house trailer on fire was able to crawl out of her bedroom window to safety Monday night, but her home in Buchanan is total loss.
Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department Chief Reggie Coles said his department was dispatched to 650 McGhee Branch Road in Buchanan at 11 p.m. Monday on a report of a trailer on fire.
Arriving units found a double-wide mobile home with heavy smoke visible. Coles said the fire was in the living room area and extinguished.
He said the fire appeared to originate in the area of the wood burning stove, but the stove was not in use at the time of the incident. Exact cause is still being investigated.
He said the owner, Annetta Rankine, said she was asleep and woke up smelling smoke and heard the smoke alarms. She escaped by crawling out the bedroom window and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911.
Due to the remote location and poor weather conditions, the Puryear Fire Department was requested for mutual aid. Puryear responded with two trucks and seven firefighters. Paris Landing responded with four trucks and 11 firefighters.
Coles said the units were on the scene for two hours. Damage is estimated at $5,000.
