Union City, Tenn.–Wes Kennedy continues to seek the best people for their best fits in the Union City School System.
That means changes – or, in this case, more changes.
Having made a host of administration and classroom moves nearly three weeks ago, the UC director of schools is now doing some more shuffling.
Thel Taylor, technology teacher at Union City Elementary, has been named the new vice principal at UCES. Taylor will serve with and under principal David Byars – chosen for that post in the first series of moves in January.
Taylor’s appointment is effective immediately.
The change was necessitated at the request of Jennifer Bruff, who asked to return to the classroom at Union City Middle School after leaving there to become assistant principal at UC Elementary in late January.
Bruff will again teach sixth-grade math.
“Administration is a stressful and time-consuming job,” Kennedy said in the aftermath of the latest moves. “After three weeks, Mrs. Bruff and I decided she can better serve Union City Schools in a position she’s most comfortable in, and that’s as a sixth-grade math teacher at the middle school.
“Both Mr. Byars and Mr. Taylor are excited about Mr. Taylor moving into the vice principal position at our elementary school. I think this pairing is going to be a really good team and our students will benefit greatly from them working together.”
Taylor, who taught second grade for eight years at UCES before moving to the technology department, was thrilled for his first administrative chance.
“When I first went back to school at age 40, a teaching job at Union City Elementary School was the only thing I wanted,” he said, noting he was hired in 2006. “I just wanted to be here… in this school system.
“I’m so excited about both my future and that of our entire school system. I can’t thank Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Byars enough for this opportunity and their confidence in me. They’re going to get my very best at all times.”
Christa Taylor, who filled Bruff’s position during her brief administrative stint, will go back to UCES and assume Thel Taylor’s technology position and also be an ESL teacher.
