Woman Sought For Leaving Pets Locked In Home Without Food, Drink

Paris, Tenn.—The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of a Puryear woman on charges of cruelty to animals after she allegedly left her pets locked inside a home without food or drink for several days.

Sgt. Wayne Fuqua issued the warrant for Jennifer L. Blackard, age 40, whose address is listed as 13800 Hwy. 641.

The landlord of the home at that address reported to the sheriff’s office that he had gone to the house and heard a dog barking inside. He said he knew the power to the home had been turned off and Blackard had not been at the house for several days.

Deputies found a dog locked in the bathroom for several days without food or water and found a cat and kittens locked in the home also without food or water.

The cats and kittens were taken to a farm by the landlord and the dog is being cared for at the Henry Co. Sheriff’s Animal Shelter.

The landlord told officers he had been trying to contact Blackard for several days and had been at the home to winterize it.
