Temperatures are dropping drastically and will continue to do so over the next two days. Warming centers are opening in our area for those needing a place to get warm. Warming centers are opening in Union City, South Fulton and Mayfield and Paris.
First Church of God at 415 South Miles Ave. in Union City is available for anyone. The church’s center will be open during the daylight hours and open on an as-needed basis during the night, according to Danny Jowers at the Obion Co. EMA.
Henry Co. Emergency Management Agency Director Ron Watkins said an area in Inman School on Harrison Street in Paris will be available as a warming center. “Every time we’ve opened warming centers, we haven’t really had anyone come in the past, so if someone needs a place, they can call the sheriff’s office and they’ll relay the message to us to open up the center,” he said. The sheriff’s office number is 731 642 1672.
In South Fulton, the Harvey O. Vick Community Room will be open as a warming center beginning today. The room is at the rear of the city’s municipal complex on Broadway St. Anyone who uses the center needs to check in and out with the South Fulton Fire Department. The center will be open day and night, beginning today and continuing through Thursday at noon.
In Mayfield, the First Baptist Church will be available if needed. Call them during their business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After hours, call the Mayfield Police Department at 270 247 1621.
