
Buchanan, Tenn.–No injuries were reported in a wood stove fire that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Buchanan.
The Paris Landing Fire Department and Henry County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched on a report of a kitchen fire at 2475 Buchanan Rd. around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Fire Chief Reggie Coles said arriving units instead found a flue fire at the home owned by Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Payne.
Mrs. Payne stated she saw burning embers falling from the ceiling around the stove pipe coming from their wood stove and called 911. Due to the location of the fire, a portion of the metal roof had to be removed to gain access.
Coles said a build up of creosote was the cause of the fire. Damage is estimated at $3,000. Paris Landing responded with two trucks and eight firefighters, Paris Fire Department also responded for mutual aid with one truck and two firefighters. Units were on the scene for one hour.
Coles said, “The Paris Landing Fire Department would like to remind everyone to exercise proper care and maintenance of all heating appliances at the beginning of the heating season as well as throughout the year.”
