Huntingdon, Tenn.–Sheila Mitchell-Hart, Owner and Director Birdsong School of Music in Camden, teaches music at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center each week to all ages of students. Several students who attend these classes along with others recently had the opportunity to perform for the London School of Music of London, England.
Sarah Sykes Bahons visited the Birdsong School Of Music to conduct music exams for the University of West London/London College of Music. Fourteen students from Carroll, Benton, Madison, Humphreys and Decatur counties prepared a musical program on piano, guitar, ukulele, and violin for credit with the London College of Music. Birdsong School of Music is an authorized center for the London College of Music. Over the past six years, students who have performed in these exams have achieved great success with the average grade being over 90%, well above the global average.
The LCM examines hundreds of thousands of music students worldwide with a series of standardized graded exams. Students learn to read, write, play by note and by ear as well as many other skills on all levels of ability. A wide variety of subjects are offered for piano, music theory, drama, communications, guitar, violin, ukulele, percussion, strings, harp, woodwinds, brass, church music conducting, jazz, organ, traditional music and more.
All teachers are invited to enter students in exams. Examiners come to the United States two times per year. We are very privileged that they have chosen the Birdsong School of Music to be one of their centers. In addition to The Dixie, lessons are also available at BSM in Benton County.
