Photo, Art Showcases, Trip To "Hello, Dolly!" Coming Up For Arts Council

By Meredith Vajda, Arts Council Board Member
Paris, Tenn.–The Paris-Henry Co. Arts Council is busy planning events that are sure to please, from the upcoming photo and art showcases to a bus trip to see “Hello, Dolly!”at TPAC with Betty Buckley. And this year, the Photo Showcase will be returning to the Paris-Henry Co. Library.
The Photo Showcase, this year called “Captured Moments: A Photography Show”, is in its 27th year, continuously sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Danny Kimberlin. The Arts Council is holding it at the Rhea Public Library, with an opening reception on March 17 from 2-4 p.m., and photos on display through April 12 during normal library hours.
Photographers can enter, at no charge, up to three photos in ten categories, all of which will be judged by professional photographers, with monetary awards in each category announced at the opening reception. Rules and entry forms are on our website phcarts.com. The Arts Council welcomes works by amateurs and professionals, beginners and more seasoned photo takers, and especially those who have never shown their work before. Please share the results of your talent, dedication, and point of view. We really want to see a wide variety and many new names on the submissions.
The 34th Annual Artist Showcase is April 14 to May 10, with an opening reception on April 14 from 2-4 p.m. The show features art in five categories, with professional judges and monetary awards for first, second and third places in each category, as well as an award for best of show. Please see the Arts Council website at phcarts.com for rules and entry forms.
The Arts Council is an appreciative receiver of Helping Hand funds, and we urge our members to support the on-air auction by donating goods and bidding often throughout the fund-raising, but especially on the Arts Council’s “day” on January 14. The Arts Council has been approved once again for funds, support that has been crucial to the success of our programs. We all love our unique home-grown fund-raising on-air auction that supports local endeavors, and this year we need to love it just a little bit more. All of the funded groups contribute to the quality of life in Henry County.
Last, best, and most-anticipated, the Arts Council is resuming the well-loved bus trips to TN Performing Arts Center for a Saturday matinee performance. The first trip is May 4, to see Hello Dolly, starring Broadway legend Betty Buckley. If you have participated in these trips in the past, you know how much fun and how memorable they are. Price is $100 per person for the performance and the bus trip. Call Karen Sinn at 731-676-1873 or the Arts Council office at 731-642-3955 for information and tickets. Reservation and payment deadline is January 26. Don’t delay; as of this writing, there are still tickets available.
The Paris-Henry County Arts Council mission is to promote, encourage and stimulate the practice and appreciation of the arts. The council accomplishes that through memberships, grants, event sponsorships, and fund raisers, all of which rely on community support. Thank you.
