Henrietta, Tenn.—Hazel Head, the mother of basketball legend and former Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball Coach Pat Summitt, has died.
The Pat Summitt Foundation announced Mrs. Head’s passing on Facebook Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Head was 93.
Mrs. Head reportedly had been ill since October and recently had moved in with her granddaughter after suffering a light stroke.
Mrs. Head was a familiar face on the sidelines at Lady Vols’ home games, traveling from the family home in Henrietta in Cheatham County to Knoxville.
Pat Summitt always said her mother was a source of strength and support for her and her family throughout her career. Pat Summitt died in 2016 from Alzheimer’s Disease.
