2019-2020 Union City Schools Calendar Adopted

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Union City, Tenn.–With a little more than half of the current school year still to go, the Union City School System is already looking ahead to 2019-20.

The UC School Board unanimously approved the 2019-20 calendar at its regular monthly meeting Monday night, one that equally divides instructional days between the two semesters and includes four significant breaks for both students and teachers.

Registration for all UC Schools is set for Tuesday, Aug. 6, with classes to begin Aug. 8. Graduation is on the calendar for May 17, 2020.

The last day of classes for the remainder of the student body next year is May 21.

A three-day fall break in October (9-11) along with a Christmas break of more than two weeks for students (Dec. 19-Jan. 7) is included on next year’s calendar. Also slotted is a week-long spring break in April (6-10, 2020). There will also be no classes from Nov. 27-29 for Thanksgiving.

Classes will also be dismissed for Labor Day (Sept. 2), Martin Luther King Day (Jan. 20, 2020) and Presidents’ Day (Feb. 17, 2020).

There will be early dismissal, too, Dec. 19 for Christmas and May 21, as the last official day of school for 2019-20.

“We always try to develop and make the most of our education days and I think this calendar does that,” Supervisor of Student Services Michael Paul Miller said. “We have 90 days of classroom instruction both before and after the Christmas break and our teachers can plan the curriculum accordingly. There are some nice breaks on the calendar, too.

“Also, this gets our students out of school before Memorial Day (May 25), which is always something we like to plan on.”

There are five professional development days for faculty and staff (Aug. 1,2, 5, Jan. 6 and Mar. 20), along three teacher prep days (two in July and on Aug. 7).

Any more than five inclement weather days will be made up at the end of the year.
