Catfish Statues To Publicize Paris As Home Of World's Biggest Fish Fry

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Paris, Tenn.—There soon will be 15 Catfish Statues gracing downtown Paris.
Downtown Paris Association Executive Director Kathy Ray announced the statues will shortly be arriving in Paris and will be painted by local artists for display throughout the community.
Ray said the statues will be placed in visible locations that will help promote Paris as the home of the “World’s Biggest Fish Fry”. The locations will be selected for the most visibility in the community, she said.
Ray said each fish will have a unique personality, depending on the artistic vision of each artist.
Each fish can be sponsored for $500, she said, which will include one fiberglass fish statue painted by a local artist; the artist’s fee and art supplies; clear coating to protect the artwork; concrete base if needed; installation of the fish statue if needed and a plaque with the sponsor’s name visible.
The fish statues stand 40 inches tall. The round base is a fiberglass concrete mixture and the statue dimensions are 40 inches tall and 24 inches in diameter.
Time frame for the project, Ray said:
January 31, statues arrive in Paris; February 4, statues provided to artists; March 15, statue artwork completed; April 1, statues clear coated to preserve; and April 15, statues installed.
Anyone wanting information can call Ray at 1 731 653 7274.
