Public Meeting On Deer Chronic Wasting Disease Set

Jackson, Tenn.—Deer season is being extended in three counties in West Tennessee so that deer there can be tested for Chronic Wasting Disease. Meanwhile, a public meeting to discuss the disease has been set for January 8 in Bolivar.
Deer season has been extended in Fayette, Hardeman and McNairy Counties from January 7-31. Chronic Wasting Disease already has been confirmed in 13 deer in Fayette and Hardeman counties.
The public meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, at the Bolivar Middle School gym.
A short presentation will be made with any updates and planned monitoring activities announced for those areas. Following the presentation, TWRA staff and representatives of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture will answer any questions from the public about the disease.
The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission voted to establish a Chronic Wasting Disease management zone to take measures to keep the disease from spreading into other counties in West Tennessee.
