NASHVILLE – Tennessee State Parks will offer free, guided hikes at 55 state parks as part of the annual First Day Hike program across the state. Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan and Reelfoot Lake State Park will be offering the hikes.
At Paris Landing State Park, the First Day Hike will be at noon-1:30 p.m. January 1. It will be a 2-3 mile hike on the golf cart paths of the state park golf course. Meet at the Golf Course Pro Shop.
The hike will go past signature hole (number 4) which has a beautiful view overlooking the mouth of Eagle Creek, the mouth of the Big Sandy River, and a portion of the Tennessee River. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear a good pair of walking shoes. You could possibly view Whitetail Deer, many different types of waterfowl, Bald Eagles, and many types of songbirds.
At Reelfoot Lake State Park, the First Day Hike will be at 3-4 p.m.
This is an easy 1 mile hike and open to both adults and children. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots. Due to weather conditions, Ranger Jerry will announce location of hike that day.

“This is a great way to start off that New Year’s resolution to be more active, and we’re glad Tennessee State Parks can offer these free hikes,” said Brock Hill, deputy commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
Tennessee State Parks hosts five annual ranger-led hikes throughout the year. Other statewide hikes Tennessee State Parks offers include Spring Hikes in March, National Trails Day in June, National Public Lands Day in September and the After Thanksgiving Hikes the day after Thanksgiving.
