Paris, Tenn.—Thanks to a façade grant received by the city of Paris last year, downtown businesses are already showing signs of improvement.
Jack Jones Flowers and Gifts installed a new door that is handicapped and stroller friendly, while both the Iron Place and Hairworks have performed complete make-overs at the front of their businesses, with awnings and new paint colors.
According to Paris Community Development Director Jennifer Morris, four more businesses have façade projects set to begin soon.
The $100,000 Commercial Façade Improvement Grant comes to Paris from the state’s CDBG program. The city’s designation as a “Main Street Community” made Paris eligible for the grant.
At Jack Jones Flowers and Gifts, Owner Kathy Robbins said the former doors at the store “were super narrow and not stroller and handicapped friendly.” She thanked Morris and Sundstrom Woodworking for making it happen.
Installation of the doors have been a hit, especially over the holiday season, with young families out and about doing their Christmas shopping. Jack Jones is a Paris landmark and is located on the west side of the court square, on Market Street.
Both Hairworks and the Iron Place have received almost complete makeovers. Both have refreshed the facades with new colors of paint and both have installed awnings to the fronts, which give both an international look. Morris said the new awnings “look just like they came from a little street in Paris, France.”
The Iron Place also has new lanterns installed on each side of the front windows. The Iron Place is located on the east side of the court square on Poplar Street.
Hairworks is located on W. Wood Street and will be installing a new sign in front of their building soon.
