By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Union City, Tenn.—This will be a busy weekend for Chimes for Charity volunteers.
The Chimes sorting day will be held December 22 and the Chimes basket packing day is Sunday, December 23. Both days start at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Troy bus garage in the industrial park.
Volunteers are needed for both days. For the sorting day, volunteers are needed to sort canned goods and other items that will be placed in the Christmas baskets. Volunteers are also needed on basket packing day throughout the afternoon to pack and load the baskets.
Jaycettes Chimes Chairperson Emily Gallimore said 250 Christmas baskets will be given out on Christmas Eve morning to needy families in Obion Co. The Chimes for Charity project is an annual event sponsored by the Jaycettes and Jaycees.
Gallimore said each basket contains the same items, which include canned goods, flour, coffee, milk, chicken, sausage, toothpaste, detergent, blankets, and more. Toys also are included if the families have children.
Gallimore invited everyone to come help with putting the baskets together this weekend.
