Progress Continues Toward Henry Co. Central Dispatch System

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Paris, Tenn.—Progress continues on the proposed Central Dispatch system for Henry Co., but continues at a slow pace.
Paris Police Chief Chuck Elizondo reported to the Henry Co. 911 board Monday afternoon that meetings were held with MTAS and CTAS representatives, which stands for Municipal Technical Advisory Service and County Technical Advisory Service.
Elizondo said, “They’ve had a hard time getting a lot of the data for us. They had to pull them up one by one and it’s been time consuming.” The final data should be presented soon and a meeting with the county and city finance directors will be set, he said.
911 Board Chairman John Etheridge said, “I’d like to make this happen overnight, but there’s a lot of information that has to be gathered and dissected.”
Meetings by 911 officials have already occurred with the Dickson Co. and Savannah dispatch systems and another is being set with Henderson Co.
In a related topic, Archer said the first phase on the Henry Co. Radio Project is ready to get to the grant writer. The project will connect all the areas of first responders and public services in the county.
Earlier in the meeting, Archer reported that $70,040 in excess funds were distributed to Henry Co. 911 from the state. “That was a lot more than we were expecting,” he said, noting he had expected about $5,000. “The IRS said they had extra money so all the districts got a lot more than we usually do,” Archer said.
A new tower is being erected in Springville and bids will be let for the project. Towers that are being purchased around the county will need improvement and secured buildings on the sites and Archer said the $70,000 could be used for that. He asked the board for $40,000 for that project, which was approved by the board.
In other business:
–The changes in Winding Way and Sycamore Lane are complete. Sycamore Lane was eliminated because there already is one in the county. Archer noted a new housing development off of Lone Oak Rd. will probably have some 100 new homes when it’s all complete.
–The state audit produced no findings.
