Nine New Business Licenses Issued In City Of Paris

Paris, Tenn.—Nine new business licenses were issued by the city of Paris in September and retail sales tax revenue was down 4.96% for the month and down 1.16% for the fiscal year to date.

City Finance Director Traci Shannon reported Thursday night that revenues were above expenditures for the month of October in the General Fund and Sanitation and Landfill.  “We are still behind for the fiscal year to date, but hopefully we will catch up soon with the help of property tax revenue.  Some of the larger expenses in October included $27K for the pole barn for Public Works, $40K for salt, and $82K for the first principal payment on the capital outlay note for the police cars,” she said.

The city mailed approximately 6,000 property tax statements and collected about 11% of the total amount billed.  “We typically collect the majority of payments during the months of December & February,” she said.

The city issued nine business licenses in October:
New business: Simply Flirt, Southern Tobacco Connection, Eastside Auto Repair, Cully Mechanical Services
Change in ownership: JMC Firearms, Tire Town, Swiss Villa Inn
Additional location: Coinstar (at Walmart), Caldo Services
