Paris, Tenn.—Carlton Gerrell was re-elected mayor of the city of Paris at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paris City Commission and Jackie Jones was elected Vice Mayor, the first woman to hold that honor in the city.
This will be Gerrell’s third term as Mayor.
Jones thanked her fellow commissioners for their confidence in her as Vice Mayor.
With results of November’s election certified by the Henry County Election Commission, Gerrell, Sam Tharpe and Gayle Griffith were sworn in at the outset of the meeting.
Gerrell noted that Griffith has served for 26 ½ years as a commissioner and was Vice Mayor for eight years; and Tharpe has served 28 years as commissioner and was Mayor for two terms. “I want to recognize the longevity of our members, particularly Sam and Gayle. These two men have put in a lot of effort and dedication to the city.”
