By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man is in the Obion Co. Jail on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment after an incident in which he allegedly shot off a round and threatened his girlfriend while her young children were present.
Malik Yandal, age 24, was arrested by Union City Police after they were told he was shooting a gun in the area of Greenwood and College St.
Yandal’s girlfriend told police she and Yandal were involved in an altercation around 3 a.m. Wednesday when Malik became irate and starting throwing things around. He got a pistol and fired one round into the closet door next to where she was sitting. She said he told her that was a warning shot and continued to punch the walls.
She and her two young children left the residence and returned around 5 a.m. when Yandal had gone. Yandal then returned and continued destroying things in the house. His girlfriend called her grandmother, who called police. Police recovered a 9 mm shell casing and two bullet fragments at the scene.
Yandal was arrested Friday night at the police station.
