UC Girls Enjoy Three-Game Winning Streak

Tornado girls get healthy
With post-turkey wins
The Union City girls’ basketball team won games both Friday and Saturday in the Gibson County Point Guard Classic to run their victory streak to three.
UC hammered Humboldt 69-33 the day after Thanksgiving, then beat South Gibson 49-29 on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Tornadoes are now 3-2 after dropping their first two games of the season.
Union City next plays at Westview Tuesday night, the girls’ game first at 6:30, followed by the boys’ nightcap.
UC 69, Humboldt 33 (Fri.)
The Twister girls bolted to a 21-1 first-quarter lead and blew H’boldt out of the GCHS gymnasium with a 21-5 second period that made it 42-6 at halftime.
Sophie Theobald had six points – including 4-of-4 from the free throw line -‑ and Jada Williams dropped in five markers in the opening canto. Bre Williams hit for eight points in the second.
Jada Williams hit for nine of her game-high 16 points in the third period when Union City built its lead to 40 points and beyond.
Theobald finished with 12 points and Bre Williams tacked on 11 to give the Lady Tornadoes three players in double figures.
Eight different players scored for UC, which hit 17-of-24 foul shots, compared to the Lady Vikings, who were just 6-of-18 from the stripe.
UC 49, So. Gibson 29 (Sat.)
Down 18-17 at halftime, the Lady Tornadoes outscored SG 17-7 in the third quarter and then 15-4 over the final eight minutes to roar back and post a convincing victory.
Shyon Stephens scored 10 of her team-high 15 points over the final two periods and Jada Williams hit for 10 of her 14 after the mid-game break.
Kyndall Davis drained a pair of 3-pointers in the third stanza to help fuel the Twisters’ charge. Davis finished just a point away from double figures and hit three of her team’s four treys.
UC effectively used fullcourt pressure in the second half and limited the Lady Hornets (3-2) to just four field goals over the final 16 minutes.

For UC teams this week
Union City Middle School basketball has a pair of home games against Hillcrest tonight, then plays at Lake County on Thursday in a twinbill.
A short trip to Martin Westview Tuesday is the lone entry on the UC High School hoop schedule.
