UC Tornadoes Drop Road Hall Of Champions Games Saturday

Union City, Tenn.–Union City’s two basketball teams came out on the short end of their second Hall of Champions games of Opening Week Saturday.
The Lady Tornadoes were beaten at Gibson County, 59-42, while the UC boys dropped a 61-43 decision on the road at Haywood.
The Twister girls are now 0-2 on the young season and will play three times this week – with the boys in a doubleheader at Liberty Tuesday, then vs. Humboldt Friday and against South Gibson Saturday in a Thanksgiving Classic at Gibson County High School.
Union City’s games will begin at 11 a.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
The Tornado boys will carry a 1-1 record into their only contest of the week Tuesday vs. Liberty.
Gibson Co. 59, UC 42 (G)
The Lady Pioneers made nine 3-pointers and broke open a 36-27 game at the half by outscoring the Twister girls 23-15.
UC could manage but six points in the third period and fell behind 52-33 with eight minutes to play.
Sophie Theobald led the Purple and Gold with 13 points, while Kyndall Davis drained four of her team’s five-made 3-pointers and totaled 12 markers.
The Lady Tornadoes did not attempt a free throw in the contest.
 Haywood 61, UC 43 (B)
The Tomcats converted 18 Union City turnovers into 20 points and outscored the Twisters 22-9 in the second quarter. Haywood recorded 14 steals in the game, converted 14 second-chance points and scored 42 of its 61 points in the paint.
It was 14-12, Haywood, after one and 36-21 Tomcats at halftime. The host team outscored UC just 25-22 over the final two quarters.
Tyler Walton had a good all-around game for the Tornadoes, scoring 21 points, hauling down seven rebounds and handing out three assists. Walton sank five shots from beyond the 3-point line.
Hudson Calfee scored six points and collected five rebounds.
UC shot 11-of-17 from inside the arc, but made just 7-of-25 from outside on the way to a 42.9 percent clip overall.
The Twisters did not attempt a free throw.
