Looking Ahead To This Week At Union City Schools

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director
Union City, Tenn.–Football playoffs, season-opening hoops and a community band exhibition will highlight this week’s extracurricular schedule of Union City Schools activities.
The Golden Tornado football team will travel to fourth-ranked Trenton Friday night for a Class 2A quarterfinal postseason game.
UC (7-5) and Peabody (11-1) already have played once this season, the Tide claiming a 56-14 decision back in Week 3.
The Twisters have won six of their last seven though, including a 35-28 victory over No. 8 Fairley in Memphis this past Friday.
Friday’s game will mark the fifth time in the last six years that Union City has played in at least Round 3 of the playoffs.
Also this week, UC will open its 2018-19 basketball seasons.
The Lady Tornadoes and Tornadoes will play host to Trenton in a pair of Hall of Champions games Thursday night at Marty Sisco Gymnasium.
Chuck Reedy will make his head coaching debut for the Union City girls after a seven-year stint as an assistant in the 6 p.m. opener, while Shane Sisco tips off his 20th year at the helm of the Purple and Gold boys in the nightcap.
The contests will mark Union City’s only home games until Dec. 11.
UC’s two teams will play HOC games on Saturday, too, at separate locations – the girls traveling to Gibson County and the boys journeying to Haywood.
The Golden Tornado marching band will perform for the final time this year Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium – weather permitting.
Union City participated in the Grand National Championships in Indianapolis this past Friday.
