Paris, Tenn.—It was an emotional afternoon for Barry Hart of Paris as he finally received his Bronze Star for Valor, 48 years after his actions as a young Marine in Vietnam. The presentation was made at the Krider Performing Art Center’s “Salute to Veterans” Saturday afternoon and made by Hart’s son, USAF Lt. Col Matt Hart, who is commander of the 386th Expeditionary Support Squadron.
The Paris-Henry Co. Chamber Music Society, Community Band and Paris Brass performed a series of patriotic songs, including “Semper Fidelis”, in honor of Saturday being the 242nd birthday of the Marine Corps. That the presentation was made on the 242nd birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps was especially moving for Hart.
In photos, Hart, at left, and his former high school classmate Steve Blount talk things over at the program and Matt Hart tells the story of his father’s heroism and award.
