Paris, TN – Round up those Christmas lights, trees, extension cords, and anything with wheels. It’s time for the 12th Annual Holly, Jolly, Electric Christmas Parade. Sponsored by the Downtown Paris Association, the parade takes place on Saturday, December 8 at 5 pm immediately following the Downtown Christmas Festival.
“One of the terrific things about a night parade is that it’s all about the lights. The little pesky details don’t matter, because they won’t be seen,” said Vickey Roberts, event chairman. Roberts said that the group has been receiving entries from parade enthusiasts who will light up downtown Paris with golf carts, ATVs, small tractors, commercial vehicles, and marching units for this dazzling spectacle.” The entry fee is $10.
“We are especially encouraging more businesses and church entries this year because they can get a two-fer,“ according to Committee Member Susan Jones . “They can be in the parade and then park their entry in front of their location to light up the night through the end of the year,” she said. Businesses also may enter commercial vehicles that are well-lit and decorated.
Trophies are awarded in the following categories: Most Christmas Spirit, Best Religious Theme, Best Decorated Vehicle, Best Decorated Float, Best Decorated Golf Cart or Small Tractor, Best Marching Unit and the coveted Clark Griswold Award for the best, knock-your-Christmas-stockings-off entry.
“We’ve seen attendance grow steadily for this festive event,” City of Paris Development Director Jennifer Morris said. “It’s one of the most popular events of the Christmas season and offers participant the opportunity to make treasured memories with family and friends.”
