Despite Drug Charges, Redmon Re-elected Sheriff; Trial Date Set

Mayfield, Ky.—Despite his indictment on drug charges, Graves Co. Sheriff Dewayne Redmon was re-elected Tuesday night and a trial date has been set on the charges.
One day after he was re-elected, Redmon appeared at a pre-trial conference in Hopkinsville yesterday. A trial date was set for April 9, 2019.
Redmon was indicted earlier this year and is accused of taking hydrocodone from the sheriff office’s drug drop box for his personal use.
The sheriff has pleaded not guilty to first degree possession of a controlled substance and official misconduct.
Christian County Circuit Court Judge John Atkins ruled that Redmon can continue his administrative duties but restricted his ability to perform law enforcement duties, including carrying a weapon.
Redmon was the only official candidate on the ballot, but there were six write-in candidates, including Chief Deputy Davant Ramage, who accumulated 1,872 votes. Redmon won with 4,852 votes.
