Dover, Tenn.—After an emotional preliminary hearing in which victims testified as to the horrors they experienced at the hands of the defendant, Stewart Co. General Sessions Judge Andy Brigham ruled there was probable cause to believe the crimes that Kirby Wallace is charged with had occurred and he bound the case over to the next grand jury.
Judge Brigham also ordered that Wallace continue to be held without bond.
Wallace, age 53, of Indian Mound, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, arson, robbery, kidnapping and other charges following a two-week long rampage and manhunt in which he is alleged to have committed a series of violent home invasions in Stewart County.
Following an intense manhunt involved hundreds of first responders, Wallace was finally captured by Henry Co. Sheriff Monte Belew and Deputy Sgt. Stacey Bostwick.
Tuesday’s hearing at the courthouse in Dover was crowded with family of victims and others interested in the case.
Victims Teddy Smith and Sarah Neblett described in detail what Wallace had done to them.
Smith testified how Wallace killed his wife, Brenda, and seriously injured him during an attack and robbery at their home and how he set fire to their house afterward. Smith cried as he recalled his wife’s last words, “Teddy, he’s going to kill us…I love you.”
Smith described how Wallace tied up the couple, stabbed them, shot them and beat them.
Sarah Neblett, who is 88, described how Wallace held her captive in her home for several hours and threatened to hurt her while he ate her food and stole her car.
Montgomery Co. Assistant District Attorney Danny Brollier attended the hearing in anticipation of more charges being filed against Wallace who also is accused of killing a Montgomery Co. man.
