Union City, Tenn.–The Union City High School band will perform its show – in its entirety – tonight at 7 at War Memorial Stadium.
The March Golden Tornadoes will present “The Pale Horse” in a free performance in a final practice before heading to Indianapolis Thursday to compete in the BOA Grand National Championships.
Union City will take the field Friday in Indy at 4:15, local time.
UC has already brought home considerable hardware from several other competitions this fall, including winning the overall championship in the West Tennessee Band Championships at UT Martin.
UCMS racks up two more wins
In middle school basketball
Though in contrasting fashion, Union City’s Middle School basketball teams continued to trend upward Monday.
The Tornado boys rallied from 10 points down with two minutes left in regulation to force overtime, then outscored Fulton County 7-0 in the extra period to remain unbeaten with a 38-31 victory.
That came after UC romped to its third straight win in the opener, the girls recording a 37-19 triumph.
The Twister boys managed just five first-half points and trailed by 12 at the half of Monday’s nightcap. The deficit was still double-digits (22-12) with three quarters in the book.
Union City outscored the host Pilots 19-9 over the final six minutes though, drawing even on a basket plus a free throw from Jaylen Lewis.
It was all Purple and Gold in the OT.
AJ Blackman had a team-high 12 points, while DJ Robinson and Malaki Brooks scored six apiece for the Tornadoes, who won despite making just 14-of-31 foul shots.
There was no such drama in the girls’ game as UC jumped out to leads of 9-2 and 22-1 at the end of the first two quarter breaks.
It was 32-11 after three periods.
Marlee Theobald had her second straight strong game, totaling a game-high 14 points for the Lady Twisters (3-4). Amari Bonds scored eight and Ada Rogers contributed a pair of baskets to the winning cause.
Next up for UCMS is a home doubleheader against Three Oaks next Monday.
