Griffey Easily Wins State Representative Race

Paris, Tenn.–Republican Bruce Griffey of Paris was elected 75th District Representative by a lopsided vote of 68.83 percent over Democratic opponent Richard Carl of Paris, who garnered 24.41 percent of the votes. James Hart of Buchanan received 6.46 percent of the votes.
After the final results of Tuesday’s election were announced, Griffey told WENK/WTPR he is “extremely thrilled and humbled to be representing everyone in the 75th district. I want to bring jobs and industry back to the district. And I’m thrilled that Bill Lee was elected Governor.”
Griffey said he will continue working as an attorney in Paris and will be attending a caucus meeting at which newly-elected House Representatives will be present and elect their leadership.
Of 10,641 votes cast in the House race, Griffey received 7,324; Carl 2,597 and Hart 687. Thirty three people received write-in votes.
In Henry County, 55.82 percent of the 19,664 registered voters voted in this election.
There were no other contested races in Henry County.
Henry County voters went the way of the state races, with Bill Lee coming out ahead by 70.94 percent over Karl Dean with 27.95 percent for Governor; and Marsha Blackburn receiving 66.21 percent over Phil Bredesen with 32.22 percent for U.S. Senate. Henry Countians strongly favored Republican David Kustoff at 69 percent over Democrat Erika Stotts Pearson at 24 percent for U.S. Rep.
