Huntingdon, Tenn.—A demonstration will be held outside the Carroll Co. Courthouse in Huntingdon beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday to protest the ongoing court case against a couple indicted on some 300 counts of animal cruelty in Atwood.
Tara Neutzler and Donald Schoenthal were indicted on charges of animal cruelty, aggravated cruelty and child abuse by the Carroll Co. Grand Jury earlier this year after Animal Rescue Corps and the Carroll Co. Sheriff’s Office raided their home, finding some 150 animals in dire conditions, with several found dead and in cages with live, emaciated animals. The animals found in and around the home were domesticated pets as well as farm and exotic animals. A dead zebra was found at the home.
The Animal Rescue Corps is upset with the ruling by Judge Donald Parish which reduced the bond, a large portion of which was to help pay for the care of the rescued animals. Bond was originally set at $391,994. The court ruling reduced the bond to $50,000, according to Animal Rescue Corps.
Volunteers at Animal Rescue Corps have been caring for the animals, including food, shelter, vet care and other expenses while the court case is ongoing.
Organizers of Monday’s protest said, “Someone needs to speak out for the ones that don’t have a voice. Please come to share our outrage for the poor animals that have to suffer and may be returned to the monsters that were mistreating them in the first place. We as volunteers and donors shouldn’t stay quiet! These animals need to be neutered and spayed and find forever homes.
The Legal system needs to change and stop greedy monsters from having innocent puppies, cats, rabbits or anything with a heart beat.”
Organizers invited the public to join the protest.
