UC Middle School Teams Roll Over Northview

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Union City, Tenn.–Make it six in a row for the Union City Middle School boys. And it’s two straight now for the Lady Tornadoes.
UC’s two teams dominated Northview Thursday night at Dan Boykin Gymnasium, the boys rolling to a 68-33 triumph after the girls had blown out the visitors 56-28.
The Tornado boys remained unbeaten on the young season with a 6-0 mark while the UC girls are now 2-4 heading into Monday’s games at Fulton County.
Both Union City squads got off to strong starts Thursday, using overwhelming defensive pressure to build commanding leads in the opening period of their respective games.
In the girls’ contest, Marlee Theobald scored the first three baskets of the game off steals and the Lady Tornadoes went up 12-0 before Northview could make a basket.
The Purple and Gold led 18-3 after one quarter, 35-11 at halftime and enjoyed a commanding 47-16 advantage with three periods in the book.
Amari Bonds again led UC with 22 points, but the Twisters had much more balance in the scoring department than they have had in any game this season. Theobald finished with a career-high 16 – 11 of those coming in the first quarter – while Ada Rogers chipped in with six.
Eight different players in all scored for the Tornadoes and 16 saw action in the contest.
The Northview boys, who were missing a handful of starters due to suspension, were simply no match for Union City.
The Twisters bolted to a 21-4 lead before the opening stanza was over and led 27-6 after the first six minutes.
It was 45-14 at the intermission and 55-26 after three quarters.
Malaki Brooks drained four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 20-point effort to pace the Purple and Gold.
AJ Blackman put up 16 markers and DJ Monroe scored 12 to give UC a trio of players in double figures.
Monday’s action at Hickman vs. Fulton County will also include a junior varsity boys’ game.
