Henry, Tenn.—Henry Firefighters have been busy today, battling two structure fires. A baby who was sleeping was transported to Henry County Medical Center for smoke inhalation in one fire. Both structures were destroyed.
The first fire was a camper at 1445 Brown Road. Firefighters arrived to find the camper fully involved, near two other structures. Henry firefighters extinguished the blaze and was on scene for just under an hour. The camper was being lived in and it is suspected that the cause of the fire was a cigarette left burning near the bed.
The Henry firefighters were assisted by the Como Volunteer Fire Department and the Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Just as firefighters were wrapping up at the first fire, units were dispatched to another structure fire at 5200 Hwy. 79S.
According to Henry fire officials, at the time the fire broke out, there were three people sleeping, including the baby. The baby was transported to HCMC. Dustin Odom of the Henry Fire Department said the baby is now fine.
Their home was a total loss and the cause has not been determined. Odom said it appeared the fire started in the kitchen area.
