Clifton, Tenn—A correctional officer at the South Central Correctional Facility in Clifton is in critical condition following an assault by an inmate at the prison Wednesday night.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Department of Correction are investigating the assault.
The TBI released the following statement “At the request of 22nd District Attorney General Brent Cooper, TBI Agents are investigating the assault, on Wednesday evening, of a correctional officer at South Central Correctional Facility in Clifton. At this time, the officer, an employee of CoreCivic, remains hospitalized.”
South Central Correctional Facility is a medium security facility.
The officer was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center via helicopter.
