Camden, Tenn.–Late last night, Thursday, October 18, Benton County Schools’ Administration and law enforcement agencies received calls concerning an anonymous post on social media. The post was a photo of a block wall that stated, “CHS School Shooting, 10-19-18, Be Ready”.
After investigating the post, the Camden Police Department and Benton County Sheriff’s department have determined this post came from another state and was not intended for Camden Central High School.
Although there is solid evidence that this post was not directed at Camden Central High School, CPD and the Benton County Sheriff’s Department will provide additional security today.
Director of Schools Mark Florence said, “Benton County Schools always take threats against students and staff seriously, and we appreciate you reporting your concerns immediately to school administrators and law enforcement.”
Meanwhile, the Benton Co. Sheriff’s Office has released a statement:
“Dear Benton County Residents,
the rumors and post about a school shooting that will take place on 10-19-18 at CHS have been investigated and found to be about a school that is in another state. The local Law Enforcement of that state has been notified and are currently working on it.
Once again, it is safe to send your kids to school today 10-19-2018”
